Tony Wood OAM

If there was ever a man well-known for pouring his time and energy into making Queanbeyan and the region a better place, Tony Wood is it.

Born in Braidwood in 1965, Tony lived in the Braidwood area before the Wood family made the move to Queanbeyan in 1981. He’s lived here ever since.

He’s poured beers for literally thousands of locals thanks to bar manager roles at the RSL Memorial Bowling Club, Queanbeyan Tigers Club and the Queanbeyan Leagues Club. In 2008, Tony started “a job that quite literally changed my life” as client liaison coordinator for Baptistcare NSW & ACT, with George Forbes House. For 13 years now, he’s helped local families and the elderly navigate and move into aged care.

Tony’s selflessness is evident through his volunteer work. He’s an overnight caretaker for Home in Queanbeyan and a Board member of the Respite Care for QBN Foundation. He’s also a member of the Queanbeyan Kangaroos Football Club and Queanbeyan Great Charity Duck Race committees. (The duck race is being held on the Queanbeyan River on 9 April 2022.)

“If you’re a part of a workforce or a committee, working as a team gives you a better result for the organisation and the community you’re a part of.”

Tony is committed and loyal. With any role he undertakes, he’s “in it for the long haul”, and the QPRC can benefit from his loyalty to our community.
